As a key member of the Engineering team and reporting into the Manager Engineering, the Coordinator Training will lead and coordinate the maintenance teams training requirements, be responsible for the creation of adequate training paths working in consultation with subject matter experts and the training department to ensure effective training and the development of methods and procedures.

Key Accountabilities and Challenges

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
  • Carry out formal workplace inspections on a routine basis.
  • Ensure employees work in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Manage and coordinate daily corrective actions.
  • Enforce housekeeping standards in all designated work areas.
  • Assist in creating and implementing SOP’s.
  • Coordinate and develop training paths for all maintenance staff to meet the main KPI of a skilled workforce across all trades personnel and supervisors.
  • Ensure the maintenance team are trained and achieve required competencies.
  • Engage and liaise with original equipment manufacturers to ensure the required level of expertise is achieved by maintenance staff for effective maintenance and monitoring of equipment.
  • Ensure that skill levels of maintenance team correspond with any legal and/or statutory requirements.
  • Support and participate in the development of a local vocational training program.
  • Maintain PAI database and monitor and develop this to match the needs of the business.
  • Create and promote a strong training culture through leadership, training and reporting.
  • Provide technical support for the mechanical maintenance personnel on a daily basis to maximize production and efficiencies and optimize costs.
  • Actively report on maintenance activities and performance indicators.
  • Contribute to the quarterly and annual maintenance budget/forecasts.
  • Manage and implement the training budget for the maintenance department.
  • Work with line management to identify training opportunities that provide depth and versatility for all new and advancing maintenance employees. Provide input to training and development needs, develop plans and establish performance metrics to meet those needs, and provide ongoing assessment tools to ensure desired results are being achieved.
  • Evaluate plant performance to identify and initiate development opportunities.
  • Promote a positive employee environment ensuring a continuation of a solid working relationship with all employees.

  • Act as deputy for colleagues as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

  • Education
    • A Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and/or related Trade Certificate in Heavy Fixed Plant equipment.

    • Computer fluency is a must with expertise in maintenance management systems and MS Office.
  • Experience
    • 8-10 years of direct experience in a maintenance role.
    • 5 years’ relevant supervisor experience.
    • Proven track record of management in training.

  • Language

Fluency in Spanish and English highly regarded.
